Harriss Newman Society
Our Harriss Newman Society recognizes those who contribute $1,000 or more each year to United Way. Harriss Newman Society members are leaders in the effort to advance the common good and build a stronger, more vibrant community.
The Harriss Newman Society is named for one of the founders in 1942 of the Community Chest—the precursor to the United Way. Harriss Newman served as the volunteer president of the Community Chest in 1943 and was a member of the North Carolina state senate.
Each year, members of the Harriss Newman Society are honored at a Holiday Leadership Reception. To see photos from the January 2010 reception, click here.
